If you are interested in the January transfer window--what a mess-- that is a separate article, this is exclusively about games.

In England there was a lot of turmoil, but not in the Premier League. It was on break for the FA cup, a championship across the leagues of England. One of the biggest upsets was Brighton Hove & Albion beating Liverpool 2-1. The day before all of the games were more or less as predicted and not super notable. On Friday, though, Manchester City played Arsenal and pulled out a 1-0 win thanks to a great Akanji strike in an incredible tactical decision by Pep Guardiola to push the center back onto the wing. The goal was assisted by Jack Grealish in his constant attempts to learn how to play like Miguel Almiron.

In Spain Barcelona widen the gap at the top to 5 points between them and second-place Real Madrid. This was in part due to a great Ter Stegen performance to let Barcelona squeak out a 1-0 win over Girona. Both them and Real Madrid are having trouble firing on all cylinders in attack as Real Madrid tied Real Sociedad 0-0 on Sunday.

Moving over to Italy there were two major results. First, Napoli beat Roma 2-1 to maintain their lead at the top of the league. Next, Milan was stunned by Sassuolo in a seven goal thriller, losing 5-2 at home. That continued a poor run of form for the current title holders, who also lost 4-0 to Lazio on Tuesday, the 24th.

North in the Bundesliga Bayern hasn't gotten off to an ideal start, yet to register a win after yet another draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. That let Union Berlin close the gap to 1 point at the top after a confident 2-0 win over Union Berlin. Outside of that game their were some high scoring affairs, including a 5-2 win for Mainz over Bochum. Other than that, though, there were no major games or upsets.

Lastly, in the Ligue 1 PSG has faltered some to start the year after a 1-1 draw with Reims. This saw PSG have to play with 10 men after Marco Verratti got a red card for a bad tackle early in the second half. Then things went from bad to worse as goal scorer Neymar was taken off after picking up a light muscle injury and Balogun scored in the 96th minute. Seventh placed Lille also fell 1-0 to Nice.
